Although these shops may offer lower repair costs to insurance adjusters, they could end up doing a poor job. Before agreeing to get your auto collision repair fixed at an insurance-recommended shop, do some research online by searching Yelp or other sites with small business reviews. 

Avoid Aftermarket Parts

​Ask about the parts being used by body shops when you bring your car in to be repaired. The body shops might use either new or used parts. Although used parts are made by the manufacturer of your vehicle and can perform as well as original parts, aftermarket part may be cheaper imitations with lower quality. These parts can cause rust, rattle, and eventually reduce your car's worth. 

Take care to match paint

​Many cars you see on the roads have body panels that are not in harmony with their color. It can be difficult to match a freshly painted panel to your car's rest. Ask the body paint shop which panels were original and which were painted when you pick up your car. Take a step back from your car to check for color differences. You may need to do additional painting to achieve a better match.

Make sure that all problems are addressed before you pick up your car. Illuminated lights may indicate that the car's computer needs to be reset or that some electrical components are damaged.
